What Is Your Blood Type? Is it Important?

I am an AB blood type with a negative Rh factor. Did you know that less than 1% of the world population has this blood type? 1 out of 167 people.

Do you know your own blood type? Why is it important to know? What are the health and diet concerns for people with this blood type? Does your blood type affect your personality?

Knowing your blood type can save precious time if you need blood quickly. If you don't know your blood type, it's fast, simple and inexpensive to find out. Shown below, you can get an at home blood typing kit and not have to wait for a doctor's appointment or pay a co-pay on your insurance. It may even be covered by your medical savings account.

AB "The Enigma"

It is called the "The Enigma".

Wikipedia definition: An enigma is a puzzle, something mysterious or inexplicable, or a riddle or difficult problem.

According to all the research I have done, the first positive date for AB blood type was 700 AD. However, if you believe the Shroud of Turin, which was found to have AB blood on it, was the cloth that Jesus was wrapped in after his crucifixion, then it would be much earlier than that.

What does AB mean in blood types?

Those who have type AB blood do not make any A,B, or O antibodies. It will accept any blood type in a transfusion. AB is the universal recipient.

So how did it come into being when the rest of the world was O, A, and B? If an A is inherited from one parent and a B from the other, the type will be AB.

Just a quick question for you

Do you know your blood type?

  • Yes
  • No

Diet Concerns

These are my personal experiences and are not meant to be used as gospel for anyone other than me. It is only a suggestion to read about your blood type.

I began reading "Eat Right 4 Your Blood Type" when my parents suggested it might help me with some of my food reaction issues. My body has rejected poultry of any kind all my life. Though I love all kinds of poultry, I cannot eat it without a violent and dangerous reaction to it. Food allergies are terrible, especially when it's something you love. I've always had issues with meats. I love it, but my body does not.

When I received the book, I opened to the AB blood type and there it was in black and white! My problem? ABs are the vegetarians of the blood groups. Now that made more sense to me. Once I began kicking some of the meat, not all, out of my diet, I felt better and my body began responding the way it should.

Eat Right 4 Your Type Amazon - Eating Right for Your Blood Type

After an initial scan of these books I found the reasons for many of the troubles I was having such as headaches. My body doesn't do well with things like poultry or Lima beans.

If you are having problems such as arthritic flare ups or need to lose weight, do yourself a favor and at least give this blood type diet a chance to help you improve your quality of life.

Personality By Blood Type?

What does your blood type say about YOU?

Personality Traits By Blood Type - A Japanese Concept I thought this was a really fun site! I never thought of blood type affecting your personality. But just as many feel their astrological sign affects their personality, some also think blood type does too!

A portion of the info from the AB blood type: "Type AB's are the split personalities of the blood groups." That, mixed with being a Gemini in astrology? It's no wonder no one understands me :)

The Links between Your Blood Type and Your Personality Though I'm not too sure how I feel about being considered "flaky", nevertheless it seems to be true sometimes.

Would you like to try to determine the blood type of offspring or even yourself?

What Do You Think?

The Japanese believe that blood type determines your personality just as a sun sign might. What you think?

Yes, I have this blood type -- AB positive -- I've talked about it on my angel lens -- nice to see a lens devoted to it. It's an enigma how I got this blood type!

I'd love to donate regularly like I used to when I lived in big cities, but our town can't do anything with my AB- blood. No one else would need it and they don't have the equipment to remove parts they could use. Bummer!

Looking toward blood type regarding food allergies makes complete sense, especially when very rare! Common O neg here has no excuse. Amen.

anonymous 4 years ago

Hmm I'm AB type too and also a girl. It's true, the problem with the meat. You see, when I was little, due to lack of common knowledge of blood type diets, my family doctor told my mom to feed me meat. I completely rejected it, yet they starved me until i ate it. It was a complete disaster, I almost died from allergies, but they still fed me meat , while keeping me on pills and injections. Today I almost faint if I see a needle x.x' My body became completely messed up over the years. I gained weight because of the meat and heavy family meals, after which a lot of pressure was put on me. Dad even advised me to go to sleep hungry to lose weight and forced me through heavy physical exercise. I was so exhausted and stressed for years. This problem even got me further from my family. I couldn;t connect with them anymore and I was unhappy. I've been going to doctors all my life and nothing worked. No diet worked, I couldn;t understand why even though I was eating so little and felt so weak, I'd still gain weight. But..one day i got caught in the Japanese culture. I've always loved art so manga and anime soon became part of my life. Then I started watching drama too. I remember it was this drama in which the characters didn;t know how to make conversation. and the girl asked the guy " what's ur bloodtype" he said "AB". Since it is the most mysterious blood , she didn;t know what else to say. Soon after I took some bloodtests and discovered my bloodtype is AB. And it was kind of fascinating, reading about it and all. Now I'm still losing weight and living healthy because of that awesome discovery. I'm so grateful for knowing what to do now. You know, at some point ur saying that no one understands you. Well..no one understands me 100% either. People of other types are used to think that if u live a lot with someone u can learn about them and they might become predictable. That's wrong in our case. Let me give u and example: I love art as I've said before so yesterday in university I got this 2D animation project to do.And this classmate of mine kept saying i'm no good, because I'm always slacking and stuff, and that she knows I'd do it on the last day. She actually stepped on a landmine lol. I told her it's a different thing, this animation project. What interests me is completely different from other things and it's of utmost importance. Now I'm working night and day for it. She's still in shock XD. U see...changes are fun. Now being known easily by people is a great advantage. But on the other hand it's a responsibility...or more like...it reminds me of this anime Neo Angelique Abyss. A guy said "Noblesse Oblige...having a gift and not using it when needed can actually be a sin" It's true that no one can learn about us 100%, but we can learn about others. our chameleon like nature can make us get along with everyone. I'm making use of this skill and training it. You might save someone one day using the gifts you have. Training oneself is important. That's why I consider this blood type an opportunity and a blessing and I'm going to try my best to make life interesting and people I like feel better. Anyway, I like your article. Thanks, I had fun.

I've never thought in terms of blood types affecting our personalities or diets. I'm AB+ and have no trouble eating meat whatsoever. However, I do tend to eat larger portions of vegetables than meats.

You provide some interesting links here which I intend to look into further. I'm going to add this to my faves and come back, from time to time.

By the way, angel wings are hovering near, granting you a blessing ... here.

anonymous 4 years ago

Jesus would have inherited type AB blood from His mother, because of the virgin birth, so Mary would have had AB blood as well.

Back in those days there were no blood tests prior to marriage, and Asians with type B blood, married gentile women with type A blood. Those middle eastern areas were considered Asia in those days. Since a majority of Europeans had type A blood, and many Asians had type B blood, then the mixing of type A women (gentiles) with type B men (Hebrews) created AB blood in the children. We know that some Hebrew men married gentile women, and Jesus had gentile women in his bloodline. Ruth and Tamar were gentiles. My mother had AB blood, but I have B+.

anonymous 4 years ago

I'm O positive, and am generally oh so positive--coincidence or a predisposition of my blood type, hmmmm...oh dear, now I just learned that I have sluggish blood and would feel better getting one hour of vigorous exercise daily. You know, that is very true and something I have gotten away from--indeed something to think about and make some resolutions about. I used to dance regularly and felt my best whenever I'd go back to it. Perhaps I'm getting closer to starting up again. You may have just inspired me to healthier living, thank you!

What a fascinating concept for a lens!

Also thank you for caring about Jay, your kind thoughts and prayers are treasured. He is one very unique individual.

i wouldn't be surprised if blood type was related to personality. maybe it's the old psych major in me but i think the relationship is more likely to be that blood type is related to both your genes and your personality, not necessarily that blood type affects your personality. :) maybe it is your genetic makeup that really "determines" both (with the caveat that environment shapes your personality too, but of course not your blood type haha). thanks for the interesting lens...definitely a different one!

My father was AB negative too. He donated blood most of his life. One time, he was called by the Red Cross to help a young man who was in a horrible car accident. The Red Cross called all 8 who were registered within the entire city (Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada) that had this rare blood type.

The weather was really bad and some folks were far from the hospital. The Red Cross staff later told my dad, 'We were expecting maybe one or two people to show up.' But you know what . . all 8 showed up during that winter storm to donate their AB- blood.

Oh, I am O negative. (And I say 'Oh' quite a bit. I checked out the personality traits for mine and my co-workers said, 'Yeah, that is you.')

Take good care,

I'm actually an AB+, almost the universal recipient. I used to believe in D'Adamo, until he came out wit the Genotype diet and changed everything. Can't say I really trust him now. :(

I'm an A and my husband is an O. We both started trying to eat for our types about three weeks ago. I am losing weight, and I feel better most of the time, but it took about a week for my body to adjust. It's made cooking around here interesting since few of the foods on our lists our mutually beneficial.
